New York Issues Circular Letter Regarding Insurer Disaster Planning, Preparedness, and Response

On July 25, 2022, the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) issued Insurance Circular Letter No. 10 regarding disaster planning, preparedness, and response by the property/casualty insurance industry.

Among other things, the Circular Letter requires insurers to submit to the DFS:

  • A response to the pre-disaster data survey, as applicable, by August 19, 2022; and
  • A disaster response plan, a response to the disaster response plan questionnaire, and a response to the business continuity plan questionnaire, as applicable, by October 7, 2022.

The DFS requests the required submissions be made to through the Department's portal application. The instructions for completion and submission of the pre-disaster data survey, disaster response plan and questionnaire, and business continuity plan questionnaire, as well as instructions for the use of the portal application, are available on the Department's website.
