New Mexico Issues Wildfire Disaster Claims Data Call

On June 16, 2022, the New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) issued Bulletin 2022-012 to implement a required wildfire disaster claims data call for all licensed and surplus lines property and casualty insurers conducting business within the state. The data call is being issued in response to the series of wildfire emergencies declared by New Mexico's Governor, which began on April 22, 2022.

According to the Bulletin, companies are to report information regarding claims associated with the wildfire events that took place in New Mexico, starting in April 2022. The reporting shall be as follows:

  • Reporting shall occur on a monthly basis, with the first report due by July 15, 2022, containing cumulative claims data as of June 30, 2022.
  • Subsequent reports shall be due by the 15th of each month, containing cumulative claims data as of the last day of the preceding month. 
    • For example, the second report is due by August 15, 2022 with claims data as of July 31, 2022.
  • The last report shall be made by January 15, 2023, containing cumulative claims data as of December 31, 2022, unless the Superintendent of Insurance subsequently announces a different end date.

The reported data shall include information on the New Mexico wildfire claims affecting the following lines of business:

  • Residential Property
    • Owners Form
    • Mobile Homes
    • All Other
  • Commercial Property
  • Business Interruption
  • Farm owners
  • Personal Auto
  • Commercial Auto

The Bulletin outlines additional information regarding the type of data to report, the reporting procedures, and group or individual company reporting, and it includes a snapshot of the reporting template, provided as Appendix A.
