Minnesota Bulletin Outlines Annual Zip Code Reporting Requirements

Minnesota Bulletin Outlines Annual Zip Code Reporting Requirements

On April 20, 2022, the Minnesota Department of Commerce issued Administrative Bulletin 2022-2 to all carriers writing homeowners insurance within the state regarding the required zip code reporting that is due to the commissioner by May 1 of each calendar year. The required report is only applicable to insurers writing policies within the seven county metropolitan area or a city of the first class. The new Bulletin supersedes all of the Department’s prior communications on the subject.

Metropolitan area is defined in Minn. Stat. §473.121, subd. 2 as the area over which the Metropolitan Council has jurisdiction including only the counties of Anoka; Carver; Dakota excluding the cities of Northfield and Cannon Falls; Hennepin excluding the cities of Hanover and Rockford; Ramsey; Scott excluding the city of New Prague; and Washington. Cities of the First Class as defined by Minn. Stat. §410.01 are Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Duluth, and Rochester.

The report template is attached to the Bulletin for insurers’ use. Insurers are now able to submit the reports electronically to the Department by emailing it to insurance.bulletin@state.mn.us.
