Maryland Issues Bulletin on U.S. Postal Service Delays

The Maryland Insurance Administration (“Insurance Administration”) has issued Bulletin 21-08 outlining its concerns over the impact of U.S. Postal Service delays on Maryland policyholders. The Insurance Administration has received consumer complaints and inquiries regarding premium bills and payments that are not being delivered in customary time frames.  The bulletin provides guidance to insurers so they may actively monitor policies being cancelled and non-renewed due to non-payment of premium.  It also provides suggested measures for the industry to take to avoid cancellations and non-renewals resulting from non-payment of premium payments where the delay in the receipt of payment might be attributable to mail delivery delays.
